Bird Diversity of the Wolong National Nature Reserve in Sichuan Province

Abstract:In order to understand bird diversity and dynamic of Wolong National Nature Reserve (Sichuan Province), the survey on the bird species was conducted during May 2015 to December 2016, from January to May 2018 and August 2018 to December 2019, via the point count, line transect method. At the same time, we used a telephoto camera to shoot the birds in the reserve from May 2015 to March 2021. In conclusion, there were 293 bird species recorded. Based on survey and previous references, 392 (belonging to 66 families and 18 orders) bird species were recorded from 30 years ago to now. And among which, there were 13 class Ⅰ nationally key protected species and 65 class Ⅱ nationally key protected species. Of all, there were 188 residents, 100 summer visitors, 18 winter visitors, 85 were passage migrants, and 1 vagrant. The analysis showed that the diversity index (5.84) and evenness index (0.785) were the highest in spring, and the diversity index (5.48) and evenness index (0.756) were the lowest in winter. Diversity index (5.74) and evenness index (0.825) were the highest in the mixed broadleaf-conifer forest. Alpine bush and meadow, and screes owned the lowest diversity index (4.51), coniferous forest owned the lowest evenness index (0.703). These results provide baseline information and scientific basis for the endangered bird conservation in the reserve.
