Herpetological Resource Survey and Analysis in the Fengtongzhai National Nature Reserve, Sichuan

Abstract:In order to further understanding the resource distribution and species diversity of amphibians and reptiles in the Fengtongzhai National Nature Reserve, a field survey was conducted in July and August 2017, May and June 2018. Based on the results of field surveys and the data reported in literatures, 56 species of amphibians and reptilians were recorded in the reserve, and among of which, 24 species of amphibians belonging to 15 genera, 9 families and 2 orders, and 32 species of reptiles belonging to 25 genera, 11 families and 2 orders. Moreover, 43 species belonged to the Oriental realm, and 13 were wide-spread species, 29 species were endemic to China, 16 species were threatened (Critically Endangered, Endangered and Vulnerable) in The Red List of China's Vertebrates. Therefore, herpetological conservation is of extreme importance. According to the current situation of the reserve, it is suggested that we should promote the popular science and supervision, enhance the protection model of community stewardship, and strengthen the scientific monitoring and research to protect amphibians and reptiles in this area.
