Bird Diversity in Pengzhou, Sichuan Province

Abstract:From 2018 to 2019, the bird diversity was surveyed 7 times in Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province using line-transect method. Combined with the data from infrared camera photos, references and preserved specimens, a total of 341 bird species belonging to 62 families and 17 orders were recorded. Among them there are 2 species ranked as class Ⅰand 26 species ranked as class Ⅱ on the list of national key protected wildlife, 15 species listed as the key protected wildlife of Sichuan Province, and 18 species endemic to China. For all 341 birds, 180 species are residents, 86 are summer visitors, 40 are winter visitors and 35 are passage migrants. Fauna analysis indicates, among the breeding birds, 179 species are from Oriental Realm, 56 are from Palearctic Realm, and 31 are widespread species. The result of data analysis showed that the species richness indices in the resident-farmland area and the broad-leaved forest were the highest. Both the bird community similarity coefficients between the resident-farmland area and the broad-leaved forest, between the coniferous forest and the mixed broadleaf-conifer forest, and between the broad-leaved forest and the mixed broadleaf-conifer forest were the highest. The community similarity between the water area and the coniferous forest, or between water area and the alpine shrub and meadow, on the contrary, was the lowest. This study fills the vacancy of bird diversity surveys in Pengzhou, providing basic data for the conservation and monitoring of bird diversity and biodiversity in Pengzhou as well as the surrounding regions.
