Investigation of Avian and Mammalian Resources in the Taxkorgan Wildlife Nature Reserve, Xinjiang

Abstract:From November 2017 to September 2019, field surveys on birds and mammals diversity were conducted in the Taxkorgan Wildlife Nature Reserve, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. According to field investigation and literatures, a total of 161 wild bird species belonging to 41 families and 15 orders, 40 wild mammal species belonging to 13 families and 5 orders were identified. In addition, there were 10 class Ⅰ nationally protected species and 27 class Ⅱ nationally protected species. The avian fauna were composed of 56 Palaearctic realm species (34.78%) and 105 eurytopic species (65.22%). For the resident type, there were 54 summer visitors (33.54%), 68 residents (42.24%), 5 winter visitors (3.11%), and 36 passage migrants (22.36%). Among the mammalian resources of resident type, there were 36 Palearctic realm species (90.00%) and 4 widespread species (10.00%). The birds had a great diversity of the genus level (G-index), the family level (F-index) and the G-F index as calculated by the ratio of G-index to F-index. The F-index was 19.58. G-index was 3.60 and G-F index was 0.816. The mammals had a poor diversity of the genus level (G-index), the family level (F-index) and the G-F index was calculated by the ratio of G-index to F-index. The F-index was 6.87. G-index was 3.73 and G-F index was 0.457. The current study provides basic inventory information for the reserve's management of avian and mammalian investigation in the future.
