Identification of Rana dabieshanensis in Tongzi, Guizhou Province

Abstract:During the amphibian survey in the Huanglian Nature Reserve, Tongzi County, Guizhou Province in July 2019, 2 amphibian specimens were collected (107°2'37.31″E, 28°29'31.95″N, altitude 1 666 m). We compared the specimens with other species of Rana by using morphological and molecular methods. The specimens were morphologically similar with R. dabieshanensis, and the 16S rRNA gene based on Bayesian Inference tree showed that the 2 specimens were clustered with the R. dabieshanensis with a high support (0.98). The genetic distance between the 2 specimens and R. dabieshanensis from the type locality was 0.6%-0.8%, which was much lower than that between Rana species. Therefore, the specimens collected in this study were identified as R. dabieshanensis, and this is the new record of this species in Guizhou Province, China.
