Taxonomy of Three Species of Orientocreadium Tubangui, 1931 (Digenea: Orientocreadiidae) from Pelteobagrus fulvidraco (Bagridae)

Abstract:This study described 3 species of the genus Orientocreadium Tubangui, 1931 (Digenea: Orientocreadiidae) which were collected from the intestines of the bagrid fish Pelteobagrus fulvidraco (Richardson, 1846) from the Lancang River, Jinghong Basin and Erhai Lake, Dali Basin of Yunnan Province, including Orientocreadium fulvidraconis sp. nov., O. pseudobagri Yamaguti, 1934 (a new Chinese record) and O. indicum Pande, 1934. Orientocreadium fulvidraconis sp. nov. can be distinguished from its congeners by the aspinose body with round posterior end, the oral sucker smaller than ventral sucker, vitellaria follicular, extending from anterior level of ovary up to posterior of posterior testis and the metraterm unspined. Phylogenetic analysis supported that family Orientocreadiidae was a monophyletic group based on partial sequences of 28S rDNA, and shows that the family Orientocreadiidae supported the family Leptophallidae as a sister taxon. Orientocreadium fulvidraconis sp. nov. is more closely related to O. indicum.
