Species Composition and Diversity of Fish in the Upper Reach of Lijiang River

Abstract:Species diversity of fish was investigated in the upper streams of Lijiang River (including four tributaries, such as Xiaorong River, Chuan River, Ludong River and Huangbai River) from April 2013 to January 2014. A total of 72 freshwater fish species belonging to 4 orders, 15 families and 51 genera were recorded. Fish of the Cypriniformes, 62.50% of all species and 79.78% of all individuals, was the dominant fish fauna in the upper reach of Lijiang River, and among of which, the number of Cyprinidea was 51.99% of all individuals. The most dominant species were Zacco platypus, Pseudogastromyzon fangi and Opsariichthys bidens, accounting for 26.76%, 11.92%, 10.50% of all individuals, respectively. The results of species diversity showed that fish diversity such as Margalef index (Dma), the Shannon-Wiener species diversity index (H'e), and the Pielou evenness index (Je) in summer were higher than those in spring and winter, while those were the lowest in autumn. The diversity of the main stream of Lijiang River was higher than the other four, while Simpson index (λ) was the highest in Huangbai River with the most obvious dominant species.
