Artificial feeding and reproduction of Cuora mouhotii mouhotii (Gary, 1862)

Abstract: This experiment investigated Cuora mouhotii mouhotii (Gary, 1862) in artificial feeding and reproduction. Thetest site was set up in Yongfu town, Guilin city, Guangxi province, China. Growth and reproduction of five sexually mature C. mouhotii (2 females, 3 males) were studied inthis research. Through investigating the growth environment, living habits, digestive tract content of the wild population, and refering to limited literature, the reasonable formula, feeding method and hatching condition were determined. The results showed the experimental population was in good condition, the average rate of annual weight growth was 5.17%, the mating peak was 5-6 months year, and the spawning period was 6-7 months. Incubation study of seven fertilized eggs showed the accumulated temperature between the two times of spawning was 188 397-189 710 ℃·h. Five eggs were hatched, the incubation time was 86-102 days, and the incubation temperature range was 57 612-68 052 ℃·h. the hatching rate was 71.4%. Between the two hatching methods,the resualt showed that the coefficient of variation ofthe hatching accumulated temperature and quality of C. mouhotii were founded, were 5.74% and 6.27%. This research provided the theoretical and practical bases for further study in the artificial breeding and reproduction of C. mouhotii.
